I am american but have lived in Austria for the past 28 years and have austrian citizenship as well as american. The images were taken in December 2003 . My intention was to portray myself in a sort
of alligorical way. I am a classical flutist and fine art photographer and have always avoided being photographed myself. Recently, I felt it was time to face the camera, so to speak ,and to break through the barrier of fear which we often have about presenting our own personal images. I have always felt that
I would be the only one to make portraits of myself which would best capture my personality. Going through the period of middle age as a woman also challenged me to meet this point of life I now experience with joy and acknowledgement of it´s strength and beauty. After having photographed the series of approximately 20 images ,I have emerged with new confidence, as well as being able to have expressed a part of my self which is closely connected to the flute and it´s often mythical and expressive repetoire |
